Approximately 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems passed over the area, bringing powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Locals reported substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that various areas across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, around 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also encountered power outages after Melbourne experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received 598 emergency reports across the region, mainly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham area - over 175 help reports

At one point on Sunday, over twenty-eight thousand energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the wettest day, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across multiple regions of both areas.

Health Warning

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.

This caution comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the region.
