The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
