Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
