Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors report that a former physician stands accused of committing assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One senior CPS official commented, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to contact the investigating team.
