Recreational competitors are being offered the possibility to claim one million Australian dollars when they compete against elite players - including top-ranked the Spanish champion - in a single-point showdown leading up to the Australian Grand Slam

Tournament officials of the Melbourne major have revealed the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will match a dozen non-professionals against 22 professionals in a elimination competition at the tournament grounds

How the Event Will Work

Participants must play 'the decision-making game' to determine who takes the serve or return position, and the player who wins the point will progress to the subsequent phase

The victor of the event will take home approximately half a million pounds

Contextually, players who made it to the final four of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won A$1.1m

The US Open hosted a restructured, independent combined gender tournament in August which encouraged top singles players to participate, with the victors receiving a million-dollar prize

The Australian Open held its debut One Point Slam this year, but the total purse was a smaller amount and it had limited exposure

One top competitor was the only top-10 player participating, and his run came to an end when he sent the single service opportunity allowed into the net in his penultimate round

Event Specifics

Organizers have not said exactly how the event will operate, but it is anticipated to follow a comparable structure to this year's edition

The elite players will be allowed to have a single serve and the non-professionals two times - as is the norm in standard play

While it is not certain how the bracket will work, there will be multiple elimination stages and the location will be the main stadium rather than the secondary venue

The last matches will be held in a night session instead of early afternoon

Entry Requirements

Any Australians - or overseas competitors who have signed up with the national federation - can participate in 'One Point Slam' events at their neighborhood facilities

The victors of the local competitions will then go into a random pairing, with a single non-professional from every region and area picked to participate in the 'championship round' in a night session on the specified date

There will also be a preliminary competition in the final month which everyday players, developing professionals, well-known figures and sport stars can compete in

It commences on early January and the two winners will advance to the following day's 'grand finale' with the additional everyday players and top-ranked athletes

Event organizers said there were "more big names to be unveiled imminently", while the event portal said "well-known figures" would be involved
