A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
